Now the in-place upgrade worked great, but you cant beat a fresh install when its needed. I eventually did a full format and lost a lot of free giveaway of the day promos, and ultimately I just did a fresh install. I ended up saving what I could, removing Media center to get back to win 8 (from pro), changing some reg keys and doing an in-place upgrade to re-install windows 8. Although i have already uninstalled it, the damage remained destroying, changing, or removing essential files or reg keys needed for the upgrades assurance checks. Turns out Advanced SystemCare was notorious for screwing up the files in both the registry as well some system files. They connected to my computer and after about an hour and a half we were unable to resolve the issue or help me upgrade to 8.1. found here: įor what it's worth I finally called in to Microsoft support.
